Ruth Arlene Utt, 88, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Aug. 31, 2021, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Ruth Arelene Mitchell was born in rural Polk County on Jan. 2, 1933, to the Rev. Lloyd and Ethelyn (Lund) Mitchell.
She graduated from Morley High School in 1951 and then went on to attend William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Ruth was united in marriage to Richard Utt on Jan. 11, 1958. at Dumont, Iowa, by her father.
She worked at Oskaloosa Clay Products and Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company. She also did in-home child care for many years. She was a den mother and a Girl Scout leader. Ruth loved the outdoors, her time at the cabin and feeding the birds. She also loved going to Hawkeye games.
Ruth is survived by her son, Richard Utt (Harumi) of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Deborah (Ron) Leeper of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Rickie, Raiden and Nicole Utt and Cody and Austin Leeper of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers, David and Donald Mitchell; and sisters. Phyllis and Marjorie.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister, Marion; and brother. Paul.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice.
