Ruth Ann McGuire, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.
There will be a private family service at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She was born July 27, 1930, at Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Ruth (Crawford) Olson. She married David F. McGuire in Dubuque in 1953. She is survived by her husband, David; son, Douglas (Nancy) McGuire of Plymouth, Minn.; daughter, Victoria Burns of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey McGuire; and her parents.
Ruth was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta
Sorority and served as President of the Alumni Association, was a member and President of the American Association of University Women, member and President of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and served 16 years on the City of Cedar Rapids Planning Commission. She was active in drama and choral music in college, serving the lead role in several productions. Ruth was an avid reader and other leisure interests included bridge, snow skiing, bowling, dancing, golf, and boating.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Cottage Grove Place for the outstanding care they gave Ruth in the last five years of her life.
