Ruth Ann Fiala, 89, of Troy Mills, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Troy Mills Christian Church in Troy Mills. The family will greet friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at Troy Mills Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Ruth was born on September 9, 1936, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, the daughter of George Walter and Sarah Neva (Vanderbilt) Ross. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School. On October 2, 1955, Ruth was united in marriage to Max Edward Fiala in Mechanicsville. Together, they farmed for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Troy Mills Christian Church, playing the organ for many years, and the Floyd Williamson Post 712 Auxiliary. She played at Hoot-n-Annies, enjoyed family time, and was a prolific baker. Ruth will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruth is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Joe (Kim) Fiala of Troy Mills; grandchildren, Melissa (Kyle) Henstorf, Morgan (Tony) Burnell, Matthew (Shelby) Fiala; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max, in 2006; one brother, Robert Ross; and one sister, Nancy Phillips.
Memorials in Ruth’s memory may be directed to the family to be divided among several organizations that meant a lot to Ruth.
