Ruth Ann (Burns) Schulte, 98, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Highland Ridge Memory Center in Williamsburg, Iowa.
Ruth was born the daughter of Leo and Florence (Quillin) Burns on September 12, 1926, in Waukon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Harold J. Schulte on January 4, 1944. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the early 1950s. Ruth was an accomplished homemaker, gardener, and master seamstress. She was known far and wide for her homemade pies and baked goods. Ruth generously contributed her desserts and ‘Gramma Bread’ to family gatherings. She loved antiquing, writing poetry, and teaching the tricks of how to win at Euchre to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always cutting cards “thin to win”. Her family was her greatest joy and most precious possession.
Ruth is survived by four children, MaryLynn Jones-Henry, Scottsdale, Arizona, Susan (Dannie) Dubishar, Swisher, Iowa, Sandra (Robert Scott) Whitters, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Scott (Wayne Spears) Schulte, Wayzata, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Burns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two of her sons, Mark Schulte and Dean Schulte; grandsons, Jeff Schulte and Cameron Schulte; great-grandson, Jaylan Jones; son-in-law, David Henry; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Schulte.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m., and Mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Our sincerest gratitude goes to the caring staff at Highland Ridge Memory Care Center.
