Ruth A. Shannon, 79, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Atkins, Iowa.
Ruth was born February 27, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Jean (Kell) Williams. She graduated from Newhall High School in 1963. Ruth was united in marriage to Larry Dean Shannon on October 9, 1969, in Galena, Illinois. She worked at Rockwell Collins as an operator, retiring in 2003. Ruth enjoyed bowling, crosswords, breakfast time, and gambling. Her favorite casino was the Diamond Jo. She loved playing cards with her family, especially cribbage, and spending time with her grandchildren. Ruth will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Shannon, of Hiawatha, children, John Shannon of Hiawatha, and Jackie (Jamie) Wagner of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Samantha Shannon of Cedar Rapids, Jacob Shannon of Oceanside, California, Brianna Luck (Brock) of Aplington, Iowa, and Brandon Wagner (Nicole) of Van Horne, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Brody Wagner, Frankie Wagner, Bronson Luck, and Brixton Luck; sister, Kay Williams of Dumfries, Virginia; and niece, Bobbi Goodman of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Fair.
Memorials may be directed to the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and the Mercy Foundation in Cedar Rapids.
