RUSSELL SHIPP
Monticello
Russell Shipp, 74, of Monticello, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, surrounded
by his family and loved ones. Russell was born
on Aug. 26, 1947, to Paul and Evelyne Shipp in Waterloo, Iowa, and grew up
in Cedar Falls.
Russ served in the U.S. Navy from
1964-68 where he was a commissary man, sparking a lifelong passion for cooking.
He retired from Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids after 28 years. Following retirement, Russell persevered through a massive stroke in 2010 that left him paralyzed on one side of his body. Through determination and grit, he recreated his life and continued to enjoy the things and people he loved.
Russell was a master gardener and accomplished chef. He loved his Coors Light, sitting around his table talking and laughing with friends and family and driving around Monticello in his golf cart. Whenever possible, he enjoyed gambling at his favorite casinos.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela; and his parents, Paul and Evelyne Shipp.
He is survived by two sisters, Vickie Morris of Cedar Falls and Cynthia Schneider of New York City; many nieces and nephews; as well as a circle of close friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society and Above and Beyond Hospice Care. A Celebration of Life is planned for April.
