Survivors include his five children, Lori McCullough, Kathie (Curt) Troester, Garett Wolverton. He was a proud Papa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean; and son, Bradley.
Russ was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Holt, Minn., to Patrick and Selma McCullough. He grew up on a farm in northern Minnesota with his eight siblings where they worked hard and cared for one another. After farming for many years with his father, Russ joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He worked at the Ford assembly plant for a while and then worked for Unysis for many years as a field engineer. He married Jean Wolverton in 1978. They moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to a hobby farm outside of Springville, Iowa, in 1981. Russ greatly enjoyed raising livestock, “puttering on his farm toys” and just being out in the country. Travelers would frequently stop at the farm house and ask for help and Russ never hesitated to be of service and lend a hand. Russ and Jean fostered many children in their home over the years. They later moved into town to Marion, Iowa, but Russ still drove his “city tractor” to mow grass. Russ and Jean always looked forward to vacationing in Mexico each winter with his siblings. Jean passed away in 2016. Following a stroke in 2021, Russ lived with his daughter, Kathie and son-in-law, Curt and they later moved to Cape Coral, Fla. He loved his water view and especially feeding the turtles.
Anyone who met Russ knew his love for the Lord. He was a very faithful Christian and shared Christ with all he came into contact with. In his final hours, he told his children to tell the lost.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International for the purchase of Bibles.
