Russell Edward Morris, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, surrounded by his family, at St. Luke's Hospital's inpatient hospice unit, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastors Paul and Gayle Wilcox. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Russell was born June 26, 1933, the son of Elzy and Irene (Wright) Morris on the family farm west of Toddville. He married Marjorie Lee Morningstar on June 16, 1955. They made their home in Cedar Rapids.
Russ loved his family, farming and fixing things. He was employed full time as an accountant, but he especially enjoyed "hobby" farming with his brother, Rol.
Russell was a member of Toddville American Legion Post 674 and the Otter Creek Lions for over 20 years.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Marge; his children, Dan (Shirley) Morris, Brenda Borden, Paul (Robin) Morris and Karla Morris; five grandchildren, Angie (Billy) Hallam, Sean (Amanda) Starr, Jennie Morris, Harmony (Aaron) Gerhardt and Zephyr Borden; and six great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Brent Richard Morris; his parents; and his brother and best friend, Roland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Matthew 25 in Cedar Rapids or Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
