Russell James Lund, 86, of Newhall, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall with Father Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's and Paul's Cemetery, Watkins, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the church.

Russ was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Audubon, Iowa, to Hans Peter Christian (Chris) and Andretta Justena Wilhelmena (Minnie) (Rasmussen) Lund. Russ graduated from Garrison High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as a sergeant. Upon returning from the Army, Russ married Carol Ann McNulty on April 22, 1957. Russ was employed at Wilsons Meat Co./Farmstead for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodcrafts and dancing.
Russ is survived by his wife, Carol of Newhall; children, Roberta Minner (Don Burkindine) of Springfield, Mo., Pamela (Charlie) Hawkins of Brooklyn, John (Karen) Lund of Mount Auburn, Ron Lund of Moline, Ill., and Sue Lund of Newhall; grandchildren, Kara (Michael) Bogden, Kevin Bartlett, Travis Lund, Josh (Ashley), Jacob and Mandey Lund, Tanysha Truax, Yates (Rebecca) Minner, Lesley (Josh) Higginbotham and Hawkins (Taylor) Minner; great-grandchildren, Michael Patrick and Maxwell Bogden, Tyler and Emmerson Bartlett, Ava and Elijah Lund, Garrett Minner, Caden, Carver and Olivia Higginbotham, Makaiya, Maysie, Beckhem and Boston Minner; sisters, Gladys Hummel, Shirley Jurgens, Kathy Smith and Barb (Ross) Behel; brothers, Chuck, Fred and Larry (Beth) Lund; and brother-in-law, Tom Gutzeit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wilma Gutzeit; and brother, Emmert Lund.
Arrangements are with Brosh Funeral Service of Norway.
