Russell "Red" Clair Johnson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died May 22, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Russell is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson; a son, Roger Johnson; and a brother, Richard (Joan) Johnson, all of Cedar Rapids; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Erven, Virgil and Clarence; and two sisters, Ione and Shirley.
Russell Clair Johnson was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Peter and Stella Schultz Johnson. On Feb. 13, 1956, he married Louise Kathryn Plotz. Russell worked for the CRANDIC Railroad as a road master. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Russell enjoyed woodworking, fishing and was an avid animal lover.
He was a loving and caring person.
