Russell (John) Stickels, 70, died in his sleep Monday, Nov. 28, 2016. A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton. Russell W. (John) Stickels Jr. was born April 27, 1946, in Vinton, the son of Russell W. Stickels Sr. and Cora Davis Stickels. John grew up and attended school in Vinton. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. On May 1, 1971, he married Sheila Baker in Vinton. John drove trucks for Coots Materials for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed computers and puttering around in his garage/workshop, but he loved time spent with his grandchildren above all else.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sheila, Vinton; his two sons, Ross (Rachael Gregory) Stickels and Jody (McKenzie) Stickels and their children, Tristan and Hunter, all of Vinton; daughter, Janet Tramill, Massachusetts; sisters, Billie Jans, Traer, and Dixie (Jack) Wayson, Vinton; and special friend, Dave Pates, Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bonnie La Vonn Johnson; and brother, Charles Stickels.
