Russell Duane Driskill, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, of lung cancer at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Per Russ' request, there will not be a public service.
Survivors include his sister, Laura (John) Pfaltzgraff; his parents, Perry and Diana Driskill; two nephews; and numerous other family members and friends
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Larry Biermann, in 2011.
Russ was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Savannah, Ga., to Perry and Diana (Koutsky) Driskill. He spent his childhood on the family farm near Afton, Iowa. He graduated from East Union Community Schools and Kirkwood Community College. He was a dedicated employee at Generals Mills for 41 years. Russ loved nature and working with flowers and animals, especially his dog, Louie.
Russ enjoyed volunteering on holidays serving meals to those in need. Memorials may be sent in his name to Mission of Hope, 1700 B Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
