Russell Wayne Aswegan, 63, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at the Troy Mills Cemetery in Troy Mills. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church in Atkins.
A memorial fund has been established.
Russell was born Feb. 10, 1952, in Marshalltown, to Glenn and Shirley Ann (Schlicht) Aswegan and graduated from Benton Community High School in 1970. Russell was a truck driver and most recently hauled grain for the Shellsburg Elevator. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.
Russell's memory will be cherished by his significant other, Kathy Fuller of Atkins; his daughter, Tina (Mike) Boddicker of Grinnell; his sisters, Connie (Keith Meyer) Huber of Cedar Rapids and Carla (Steve) Sokol of Grinnell; his brother, Richard Aswegan of Marion; his grandchildren, Alicia (Matt) Routier of Sully and Ethan Boddicker of Grinnell; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Routier of Sully and two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and Randy; and his infant sister, Cathy.
His family is devastated not only by the loss of Russ, but by the continuing reality of his absence – "Keep on trucking little buddy."
