Russel Allen Hansen, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023. Per Russ’s request, there will be no services.
Russ was born the son of Vernon O. and Grace M. Bausch Hansen, on May 22, 1931, in Hiawatha, Kan., and married Charlene Mae Bender on Jan. 20, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. Russ graduated from Roosevelt High School and began working for the Quaker Oats Co. in September 1948, retiring in June of 1992.
In 2008 he retired as a part time employee of the City of Cedar Rapids (Transportation and Parking) with 14 years of service. He was in the army from October 1951 to October 1953, stationed with Battery D, 876th AAA Bn at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska.
Russ will be missed by his daughter, Susan L. White (David) of Greene, Iowa; son, Brad A. Hansen (Cindy Andrews) of Shellsburg, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Sheena (Brad) Abbott of Burlington, Iowa, Ryan (Sara) Henrichs of Allison, Iowa, Tori Henrichs (Kevin Pope) of Ottumwa, Iowa, Becca Henrichs of Ankeny, Iowa, Brian (Jenni) Vaske of Epworth, Iowa, Shannon French and Stacy (Craig) Carter, all of Hernando, Miss.; 14 and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Drew and Kaitlyn Vaske, Keegan French, Aubrie, Haley and Andy Carter, Lillian Abbot, Sawyer and Adelyn Goehring, and Warren, Russell, Reagan and Hayden Henrichs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon, in 1967; his mother, Grace, in 1996; his brother, Paul, in 2010; and his wife, Charlene, in 2015.
Russ will be lovingly remembered by his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids for his hearty laugh, great hugs, meticulous lawn and his fishing talents. He always knew where the big ones were biting at Spirit Lake.
