Russ, Nicholas H.
Nicholas H. Russ, 80, of Monticello, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate.
Nick was born June 20, 1932, in Kelly, Kan., the son of Henry S. and Veronica E. (Lahr) Russ. He graduated from high school in Hopkinton, Iowa with the class of 1950. He was drafted into the Army and served from 1953-1955.
He married Rita Egloff on June 9, 1959, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. He was an electrician, working for several companies, including Neuhaus Surge and Harris Electric. They lived in several communities in Dubuque, Delaware and Jones counties, eventually settling in Monticello.
Nick is survived by his wife, Rita; six children, Dave (Geralyn) Russ of Anamosa, Deb (Larry) Laing of Tipton, Dan Russ of Monticello, Diane (Scott) Schroeder of Mechanicsville, Daryl (Robin) Russ of Marengo and Lori (Ed) Squires of Kenosha, Wis.; 16 grandchildren of whom he was very proud; a sister, Mary Ann (Roy) Kern of Dyersville; and a brother, Anthony (Alice) Russ of Hopkinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
