Rusk, George D. Jr.
George D. Rusk Jr., 90, of Crestview Acres, died there Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, from complications of old age. Memorial services at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. T. Edwards Breed will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, where there will be military rites. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Verlien; and his children, Ron (Teri) Clarke of Cedar Rapids, Jackie (Nancy) Clarke of Castle Rock, Colo., Sheila (Jackie) Miller of Marion, James Rusk of East Bay St. Louis, Miss., George III (Pam) Rusk of Center Point, and Cynthia (Bill) Thomas of Anamosa.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine; and a great-grandson, Michael.
George was born on Jan. 6, 1920, in Belle Plaine, the son of George and Eva VanDoren Rusk Sr. He married Verlien M. Sigmund on Sept. 25, 1948, in Iowa City. George was a machinist at Cherry Burrel for over 22 years, retiring in 1982. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Laffey from 1943 to 1945 in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

George will be greatly missed by all, being the close knit family as we all are.
