Rush, Barbara L.
Barbara L. Rush of Anamosa passed away, with her family by her side, on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Silvercrest of Anamosa Residential Living Center after a long illness. Per her request, her body was deeded to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. March 29 at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. The Rev. Michael Kleeberger will be officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Survivors include her husband, Allen; her daughters, Debra (Jerry) Dooley of Cedar Rapids and Dena (Calvin) Himes of Monticello; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Bernadine (Palmer) Farmer.
Barbara was born on a farm in rural Wayne County, Ill., on Dec. 26, 1938. She attended Fairfield Grade School and graduated from Fairfield Community High School. After graduation, she attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Ind. Early in life she was employed at Wayne Hamilton Service Co. She also was employed part-time by Farm Business Farm Management preparing taxes. She spent several years as a stay-at-home mom while her daughters were growing up. After her daughters were grown, she worked as a secretary for the James T. Thomas Law Firm until her retirement.
Barbara was always active in a variety of church activities and served many years as church treasurer. Barbara's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and having coffee with her friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Silvercrest and Above & Beyond Hospice for their wonderful and loving care and to her many friends for their prayers and visits.
