Rundquist, Matthew David
Matthew David Rundquist, 42, of Iowa City, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, May 9, 2010. A gathering and a time of sharing for family and friends will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at The Kirkwood Room at Governors Ridge, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, (adjacent to Lensing Funeral Home). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa City Crisis Center.
Matt was born on June 5, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Sherry (Espinosa) Rundquist. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1985, where he was active in speech and drama; and later went on to graduate from Luther College, Decorah, in 1995 with a degree in Anthropology. Matt was politically active and concerned with environmental issues.
Survivors include his parents, Gordon and Sherry of Iowa City; his brother, Paul of Mount Pleasant and his children April, Kodi, Paul and Katie; his grandparents, Paul and Mavis (Holt) Espinosa of Mason City; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald A. and Geraldine M. Rundquist.
Matt was the first child and grandchild in his family and held a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
