Rumer, Lynn G.
Lynn G. Rumer, 84, of Thornburg, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Jefferson Place in Pella.
Lynn was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Hope, N.D., to Frank A. and Vera Emily (Proctor) Rumer. He graduated from high school in Edgeley, N.D., and received degrees from Kletzing College in University Park, Iowa and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. On June 1, 1949, he married Betty Haselton in Eddyville. Following their marriage the couple made their home in the Keswick and Thornburg communities. Lynn served as a student pastor in Keswick and Webster from 1949 until 1957. He then taught high school English and Social Studies at Keota, Lynnville-Sully and Oskaloosa, retiring in 1991.
Lynn enjoyed traveling, reading, writing articles for the local newspaper and keeping the politicians on their toes.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Thornburg; three children, Larry (Julia) Rumer of Pella, Shirley (Mike) Pendleton of Ankeny and Dale (Susan) Rumer of Walford; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Atha Trusler; and brothers, Dale and Wayne Rumer.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Keswick United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Tunnicliff and the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for the American Red Cross.
