Ruley, Lorna M.
Lorna M. Ruley, 81, of Oxford Junction, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction, with the Rev. Greg Steckel officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.
Lorna Mae Husmann was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Anamosa, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Johanna “Mary” (Lubben) Husmann. She graduated from Anamosa High School. On Jan. 29, 1955, she was united in marriage to Joe Ruley in Anamosa. They lived on the same farm their entire married life.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, and the Wapsie Unit 473 Legion Auxiliary. Lorna held several offices, including two terms as president.
Since 1969, Lorna and Joe worked at the Legion-sponsored dances. They also worked with Wapsie Unit 473 to establish the Avenue of Flags at the Mayflower Cemetery and headed the project for 13 years. Lorna also served as Oxford Township clerk, as well as treasurer for the Oxford Junction Cemetery Association. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 363 in Clinton since 1985.
Lorna was well known for sharing her cake-making talent. She made cakes for all occasions for over 30 years.
Lorna is survived by her husband, Joe Ruley of Oxford Junction; two children, Dawn (Paul) McDermott of Delmar and Mark Ruley of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eloise Ricklefs of Anamosa, Loretta (Ron) Stahlberg of Waverly and Mary Murray of Oxford Junction; two brothers, John (Pat) Lubben of Montezuma and Jim (Maureen) Lubben of Boston, Mass.; and wo sisters-in-law, Josephine Behne and Nadine Ruley, both of Oxford Junction.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brad Joseph on June 24, 2003; one brother, Robert in infancy; and one sister, Alice Sauer.
