Rucker, Frances S. 'Fran'
Frances S. “Fran” Rucker, 93, a resident of Higley Mansion Residential Care Center, formerly of Marion, died Christmas Eve 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion by the Rev. Greg Williamson and the Rev. Don Loesch. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Per Fran's wishes, the casket will be closed at all times. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sons, Michael (Jean) of Pensacola, Fla., and Steven (Dianna) of Monticello; four grandchildren, Christine, David, Rachel and Nathan; and two great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Aaron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died May 15, 1998; her parents; and a sister, Velma.
Fran was born March 17, 1917, in Walker, Minn., the daughter of Howard and Selma (Lofquist) Rassmussen. On June 28, 1938, Fran was united in marriage to Bill Rucker in Marengo. She was the co-owner of Marion Live Bait for 20 years, retiring in 1976. Fran was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1951 and was a longtime member of the Marion community. She loved baseball, especially the Cubs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 915 27th St., Marion IA 52302 in Fran's memory.
