Ruby, Jon Alan
Jon Alan Ruby, 52, of Marion, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Ritva Williams. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his daughter, Amber (Julian) Slade of Fort Bragg, Texas; three grandchildren, Manny, Anna and Amerie; his siblings, Daryl (Madeline) Ruby of Cedar Rapids, Clarence (Marilyn J.) Ruby of Palo, Sheryl Garza of Texas, and Teresa (Ron) Petrie of Cedar Rapids; 12 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Jon was born Jan. 9, 1960, the son of Clarence and Marilyn (Veerman) Ruby Jr. in Ottumwa, Iowa. On July 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to Linda Ditch in Cedar Rapids. A diesel tech and truck driver, Jon most recently worked for Kirkwood College as an operation coordinator in the transportation department.
Beloved husband, father, brother and grandpa, Jon's greatest love was spending time with his grandkids and traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the winter. He also enjoyed NASCAR and searching for eagles nest.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
