Ruby D. Bachman, 96, of Vinton, formerly of Van Horne, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne, with the Rev. David C. Lingard officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. Sixth St.) in Vinton.
A memorial fund has been established.
Ruby was born Dec. 9, 1918, near Keystone, to Carl and Alma (Hennings) Brunssen. She was united in marriage to Charles Bachman on June 4, 1936, in Keystone. He preceded her in death.
Ruby worked as an Avon salesperson for 35 years and for Benton Telemarketing for nine years. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne, the Van Horne Library board, Sewing Club and served as a Cub Scout den mother and 4-H leader.
In her leisure, Ruby enjoyed bowling and loved playing cards. She also loved to bake bread and pies.
She is survived by her children, Allan (Karen) Bachman of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Sylvia) Bachman of Incline Villiage, Nev., Linda (Stephen) Wallace of Vinton and Charles (Karen) Bachman of Swisher; her six grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Wallace, Stephanie (Darin) Humiston, David (Deanna) Bachman, Nicholas (Pascale) Wallace, Andrea Bachman and Matthew (Brandi) Bachman; her 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Schoelerman of Cedar Rapids; her sister-in-law, Kathryn Brunssen of Belle Plaine; and her brother-in-law, Ed Hain of Glenview, Ill.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy; three sisters, LaVerna Cohrt, Elvera Sindt and Lois Hain; and four brothers Roland, Marvin, Dick and Delmer Brunssen.
