Roy B. Pewitt, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home, conducted by Lay Minister Deb Black. Burial: Grout Cemetery, rural Sharon Center.
Survivors include his children, Karen (Darrell) Studer of Iowa City, Sheila (Daniel) Miranda of Washington state and Howard Pewitt of Iowa City; stepson, Larry (Kathy) Wittmer of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grand-children; and four brothers, Wayne, Joe, Dale and Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy; second wife, Ina; two sisters, Rowena and Opal; and a brother.
Roy was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Licking, Mo., son of Beldon and Hannah (Crow) Pewitt. Roy served in the U.S. Army, part of the Medial Corps, during World War II with his five brothers from 1941 to 1945. He married Dorothy Berkley; she later died.
Roy farmed for 43 years and was a carpenter. Roy married Ina Tweedy-Wittmer on Aug. 9, 1986, in North Liberty. The couple lived in Riverside and Florida before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1989. Ina died in 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
