Roy Leon McDowell Jr. died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at his home in Coralville at the age of 59 years. He was formerly of Marengo.
Roy was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Roy L. and Velma Elaine (Schaffner) McDowell. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1975. Roy lived in Marengo and Williamsburg most of his life before moving to the Iowa City area.
Roy enjoyed watching movies and wrestling, listening to music and spending time with family.
He is survived by two brothers, Gerald McDowell of Cedar Rapids and John McDowell of Marengo; four sisters, Linda Petersen and Jean McDowell, both of Marengo, and Carol McDowell and Nancy McDowell, both of Iowa City; five special brothers, Dennis Bair, Keith Bair, Don Patten, Bill Russell and Kevin McIntyre; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established.
