Roy B. "Sonny" Lee, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 3, 2015, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab. Memorial services, with military rites: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Arron Doolin will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum columbarium.
Roy was born April 27, 1926, in Salisaw, Okla., the son of Columbus and Cora (Simms). As a young man, Roy boxed in the Golden Gloves Championships throughout the Midwest. Roy was a World War II veteran, who received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1946 after serving in Europe and the Pacific. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
Roy retired from Penick & Ford after 40 years and was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed softball, bowling and fishing.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, June; his children, Roy Jr. (Judy) of Minneapolis, Randy (Rhia) of San Diego, Calif., and Roxanne Lee (Catherine) of Chicago; five grandchildren, Lamont, Ruben, Rosalie, Ranice and Rolanda; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family greatly extends their appreciation and thanks to the staff and residents of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of Mercy for the loving care given to Roy.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy.
Roy will be greatly missed, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him
