Roy LaVerne Highley, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Highley; their children, Roy Leonard Highley (Emiko), Charles Trent Highley, Ellen Louise Tushar (Pete), Brice Neal Highley and Mark Richard Highley; his siblings, Nelda Barnes, Donna Anthony and William Highley; his grandchildren, Lt. Aaron Highley, Major Vincent Highley, Kumiko Highley, Major Oliver Highley, Adam Spilman, Angie Howie (Billy) and Trent Highley; and his great-grandchildren, Arne Kvaal, Sakura Kvaal, Soren Kvaal, Ezekiel Spilman, Malachi Spilman, Micah Spilman and Rayshon Price.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bernice Van Amburg, Viola Van Amburg, Chuck Highley, Nadine Davis and Ernest Highley.
Roy was born March 7, 1923, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Daisey (Clark) Highley. He joined the Navy on Dec. 8, 1941, serving until 1947 on the battleship USS Washington during World War II. He retired from Iowa Manufacturing after 40 years of service.
