Roy W. Duncan, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, after a lingering illness, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home. Private family graveside: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Roy was born June 29, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of H. Ralph and Mrytle (Caraway) Duncan. He served proudly in the United States Navy for
four years during the
Korean War. Roy married Mary Johnson on July 11, 1953, in Center Point. He worked as a supervisor at Square D/Schneider
Electric until he retired
in 1990.
Roy was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He spent many enjoyable days buying and selling
antiques and made many great acquaintances and lifelong friends. Roy had a passion for the outdoors and he passed that love on to his children.
His greatest enjoyment was spending time with Mary and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Duncan; children, Robert (Roberta) Duncan, Julie (Kirk) Hoeppner, Michael (Martha) Duncan and Treesa (Brian) Weber; nine grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Paul) Croy; and other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Dale, Faye and Joyce.
Special thanks to the staff at the hospice house for their loving care given to Roy.
