Rowland, John D. 'Jack'
John D. “Jack” Rowland, 98, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his son, John Jr. and wife Jane of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Amy Lawton (Todd) of Dallas Center, and Kara Fogarty of Granger; four great-grandchildren, Drew and Nic Lawton and Dillon and Kolby Fogarty; and a special friend, Maggie Kirby of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jane Scott Rowland in 1997; and a brother, William “Bill” Rowland.
John David Rowland was born April 29, 1914, in San Jose, Calif., the son of Lincoln and Laura Gode Rowland. He attended the San Jose schools through 11th grade. The family moved to Marengo and Jack attended Marengo High School for his senior year, graduating in 1933. Jack married Betty Jane Scott on June 14, 1941, in Marengo. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as a member of the 463rd Fighter Squadron. This unit remained close and he attended many reunions over the years. When he returned to Marengo, Jack went to work at Quaker Oats for over 40 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, the Marengo American Legion Post #76 and a past member of the Marengo Golf Club.
