Ross, C. David
C. David Ross, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dave was born April 18, 1918, in Kenwood, Iowa, the son of David and Wilhemina (Dahnke) Ross. He married Thelma Mae Sheffield on Aug. 19, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Thelma passed away Nov. 19, 2004. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1936. He was employed with Turner Microphone Co. for 23 years before owning and operating Cedar Rapids Marine from 1960 until 1982. Dave was a charter member of the Cedar Boat Club, he served 22 years as a river front commissioner and helped develop the Ellis Park Harbor. He enjoyed playing the accordion, boat racing and league bowling in his younger years.
Survivors include his daughters, Pam Sorenson of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Bob) Justis of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Brett (Michelle) Proskovec of Hiawatha, Jodi (Chad) Wauters of Cedar Falls and Nicole (Cody) Ubben of Waterloo; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; parents; and an infant sister, Corrine Ross.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes or St. Luke's Hospice.
