Roslyn Lembke passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Visitation: 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Interment: East Side Cemetery, Elkader. Leonard Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Elkader is in charge of arrangements.
Roslyn was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Farmersburg Township, the daughter of Arthur and Hilma (Schmidt) Ihde. She was baptized and confirmed at Clayton Center. She went to Hope and Mecklenberg school. She was united in marriage to Lester Lembke on May 9, 1939. The couple farmed Lester's home place. They moved to Elkader in 1994. One daughter, Geraldine, was born to this union.
Roslyn decorated cakes for 35 years. She met a lot of people! She delivered cakes to Dubuque, Manchester, West Union and many more towns. People often called her the "Cake Lady." She continued to decorate cakes until she retired at the age of 85. Roslyn moved to North Liberty in 2008 to be close to her family.
Roslyn enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandson. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Richine (Jim) Sartain; and great-grandson, Ryan Sartain of North Liberty; a sister, Evelyn Behning of St. Olaf; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; daughter, Geraldine; parents; and a brother, Harold Ihde.
