Rose Mary "Rosie" Carville Schuhmacher, 90, of Amana, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Lakeview Village Retirement Community. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, Iowa, with the Rev. Dustin Vu officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Atkins. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rosie was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Thomas James and Zela Turner Carville. She graduated from Walford High School in May 1944 and entered into marriage on July 25, 1944, with Henry G. Schuhmacher of Amana. During the war, Rosie worked for Rockwell Collins. In 1949, she started working for the U.S. Postal Service, serving as postmaster from 1977 until her retirement in April 1984.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Henry; a son, Henry T. of Ankeny; a daughter, Diane (Mineard) Smith of Watkins; four grandchildren, Cindy Smith of Amana, Kimberly (Jack) Shaw of Mesa, Ariz., and John and Emily Schuhmacher of Ankeny; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Wilson (Bobby Burgess) of Cedar Rapids, Mackenzie (Andy) Kasner of South Amana and Nicholas Wilson of Indianola; two great-great-grandchildren, Scarlet Burgess and William Kasner; and a sister, Shirley Neumann of Amana.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James E. Carville.
