Rose, Robert J. 'Bob'
Robert J. “Bob” Rose, 87, a lifelong resident of Springville, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, with his wife at his side. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, by the Rev. Dennis Johnson and the Rev. Kevin Jones. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, where a Masonic service will begin at 3:30 p.m. Burial: Springville Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #331 of Springville.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Pat; three children, Roger (Lisa) Rose of Springville, Barb (Dan) Colby of Marion, and Lori (Doug) Hutchison of Winchester, Mass.; five grandsons, Justin, Brian, Christopher (Jen), Bobby and Roman; one great-granddaughter, Emma; and sister, Mary (Larry) Stoecker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harmon and Paul Rose.
Bob was born April 8, 1924, in Springville, the son of George and Ethyl (McShane) Rose. He graduated from Springville High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theatre during World War II. Bob married Patricia Peters on Aug. 21, 1949, in Spragueville, Iowa. He worked for FMC/Link-Belt and Collins Radio.
Bob was a member of Springville American Legion Post 331, Masonic Lodge #139 A.F. & A.M. of Springville, and was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion. He also volunteered at the Crossroads Mission and the Springville Fire Department. Bob enjoyed fishing and was an easy going man who enjoyed visiting with everyone. He met challenges in his life with great courage and optimism.
