ROSE POSPISIL
Mount Vernon
Rose Ann Meroshek Pospisil, 98, was reunited after 23 years with her beloved "Bub" when she was called home by the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon. Visitation for Rose will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday all in the church. Burial will be St. John's Cemetery, Lisbon.
Surviving Rose are her family, one son, John (Cindy) of Mount Vernon; and two daughters, Carol (Ron) Lee of Midway, Utah, and Jean (Kurt) Larsen of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Ingrid, Brian (Tiffany), Jared (Sarah), Meggan (Brent), Scott, Erin, Joe and Luke; and six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Joscelyn, Addie, Ellie, Marek and Bode.
Also surviving is her sister, Clara Pospisil.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Bub;" and three brothers, Frank, Chuck and Bill Meroshek.
Rose was born June 2, 1915, on the family farm in rural Linn County, the fourth of the five children of Frank and Mary Vanous Meroshek. She graduated from Lakeside Country School. Following school, she worked at various jobs including Collins Radio until her sister Clara introduced her to Joseph Pospisil. The couple married Nov. 6, 1946, and Rose settled into her most important job, that of farmwife and mother. She was known for her kolaches, hoska, noodles and Open Line Radio recipes.
Rose was a member of the Jolly Workers, Club II and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Rose was outspoken, most notably for her quick witted one liners. She loved listening to Sunday Morning Czech Party on the radio. Most of all she will be remembered as a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.
Cheers Grandma Rose! Na Zdravil!
A memorial fund in Rose's honor has been established.
