Rose Marie Matus, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Winslow Health Care Center, Marion. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Burial: St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sons, Danny (Carol) Matus of Marion and Bill (Jan) Matus of Atkins; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Marie Miller; and sister-in-law, Alice Matus of Arvada, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, "E.J"; son, Edward J. "Guy" Matus; daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Jim) Harris; and sister, Grace Kuhn.
Rose was born April 18, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Edwin and Lillian (Spinka) Kirzek. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School. Rose worked at the Linn County Courthouse. On Feb. 6, 1950, she married Edward "E.J." Matus Sr. and together they raised their family. She later worked as a manager at Hawthorne Hills. Ed died in 2001.
She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Choir for 30 years and the couple sang at many weddings. Rose enjoyed shopping, selling Avon, but most of all, celebrating Christmas; it was her favorite time of the year.
She was a loving mom and grandmother.
