Cedar Rapids
Rose Mary Oakley, 92, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, was blessed by God with the gift of eternal life on March 8, 2022. She died from a short battle with dementia. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, with a private family burial to follow, with Pastor Kirk Statler officiating.
Rose was born in Minnesota on March
22, 1929. Raised by her mother and father, Michael and Emma (Vopalka) Bethen and then her stepfather Sylvester Riggins. She worked for Wilsons and then Farmstead for many years.
Rose is survived by her two sons, William (Victoria) and John (Teresa); her grandchildren, Bradley Oakley, Christine (Robert) Angerer, Janet (Douglas) Henry, Derek (Sehrish) Hines, Christopher Oakley and Steven Oakley; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Roger) Hines; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Oakley; and her brothers, George and Frank Bethen.
The family would like to thank Jane Severide, her best friend, for cards and visits and a special friend, Roberta Oakley. A special thank you goes to MeadowView Memory Care Village where she spent the last 16 months and to the Iowa City Hospice nursing staff for the excellent care the last few weeks of her life. The family greatly appreciates your care during these hard times.
