Rose Marie Cress, 84, of Hoopeston, Ill., passed away at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
She was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Cletus and Rita (Rummelhardt) Mellecker. She married Richard Cress on Aug. 28, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in the Vail in Nashua. He survives in Hoopeston.
She is also survived by one daughter, Donna Crose of Champaign, Ill.; three sons, Ron (Diane) Cress of Zionsville, Ind., Brian (Jane) Cress of Bismarck, Ill., and Brad (Jan) Cress of Cornwall, England; three sisters, Katherine (Marvin) Simon of Riverside, Lois Zeman of Hills and Marcia Mellecker of Hills; two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Mellecker of Riverside and Leo (Lois) Mellecker of Hills; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter; one sister-in-law, Betty Myers; and one brother-in-law, Frank Zeman.
Rose worked for as secretary for 32 years at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, where she also was a member of the church and United Methodist Women. She also was a member of Women Making a Difference.
Rose enjoyed scrapbooking, card making, needlework, working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles and playing cards.
A time of food and fellowship will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22. Following the luncheon, a graveside service for Rose will be at 1 p.m. at Riverside Public Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Rose's honor to the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL 60942.
