ROSALIE ROHWEDDER
Olin
Rosalie Rohwedder, 95, former resident of Olin, died on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Clarence Senior Living. A gentle spirit, full of grace, living with Parkinson's without complaint, always putting others before herself this is the legacy she left to us.
The family will receive friends from
10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home, Olin, Iowa. A celebration of Rosalie's life will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Olin Cemetery. Please join Rosalie's family for a luncheon following services at the Olin Masonic Lodge.
Rosalie was born Feb. 22, 1923. She was the youngest and last surviving child of Edward and Frieda (Schellin) Kreger. Her siblings were Evelyn Voelker, Elna VonBehren, Vernie, Marvin, Earl and Marieta Graf. Her sister-in-law, Betty (Bob Kreger) Lambert, survives. Rosalie graduated from Olin Consolidated High School in 1940. She was an all-state guard on the basketball team that played in the Des Moines state tournament in 1940. Her sister, Marieta, was there as a cheerleader.
Rosalie married the late Harry Rohwedder of Wyoming on Oct. 3, 1944. Harry often stated, "The best thing I ever did was marry your mom." Together they were busy with farm life while raising four children: Pat Archambault (Andre), Red Bank, N.J., Penny Overbaugh (Glenn), Bettendorf, Joe Rohwedder (Dee), Iowa City, and Becky Inman (Joe) Boone, Iowa.
A huge garden kept the family busy during the summer months, especially Rosalie! She was an excellent cook. Her family looked forward to Grandma's holiday meals. Rosalie enjoyed playing bridge and golf, dinner and dancing at the Heights in Monticello. In later years, watching the Cubs and the Hawkeyes provided entertainment. Rosalie was a member of the Olin Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Rosalie's grandchildren brought her joy. They are Dan Overbaugh (Jenny), Aurora, Colo., Brian Overbaugh (Katie), Bettendorf, Lisa Deuser (Dave), Tahoe, Nev., Alex Inman, Boone, Iowa, Casey Inman, Iowa City, and Megan Inman, Boone, Iowa. When the grandkids visited Grandma over holidays and special days, they were sure to receive a big smile. And, of course, when the great-grandchildren Lucas, Mia and Evan Overbaugh (Colorado), Olivia and Elle Overbaugh (Bettendorf) and Jack and Forest Deuser (Nevada) came to see great-grandma, she radiated love.
A special thank-you to the staff and residents at Clarence Senior Living for their compassion and love. They became family.
Memorials may be directed to her family in her honor.
