Ronald Dale Vogt, 66, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at his home in rural Atkins. A celebration of Ron's life will be held will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Adolph H. Schueller Post No. 217 in Atkins (American Legion, 89 Main Ave., Atkins, IA 52206). Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
Ron was born Sept. 18, 1952, in Vinton, Iowa, to Dale and Phyllis (Krug) Vogt. He graduated from Benton Community High School with the class of 1970. Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Seabees during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Ron returned home and worked in trucking for the family business, West Side Unlimited.
He was very active in veterans' organizations, including the Adolph H. Schueller Post No. 217 in Atkins, the Cedar Rapids VFW, Sons of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Forty and Eight Voiture No. 625.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon; his three children, Sean (Tina) Vogt of Watkins, Trent (Dannette) McQuiston of Cedar Rapids and Leah Jensen of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Taylor, Elizabeth, Anna, Tegan, Madeline, Delaney and Ryder; his stepmother, Jeanne Vogt of Atkins; four brothers, Don (Andie) Vogt of Fort Meyers, Fla., Tom (Kim Dartez) Vogt of Frisco, Texas, John (Julie) Vogt of Cedar Rapids and Lonnie Vogt of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Dalean (Mike Purcell) Larson of Cedar Rapids; many nieces, nephews; and special friends, Dave and Diane Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Catherine Vogt, in infancy; and his grandson, Brandon Vogt.
A special thank you to Hospice of Mercy and hospice caregivers Chari, Rene and Pastor Joe. Thank you to the staff at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, especially Dr. Lee and Lisa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Atkins American Legion Post 217, in care of Dave Herman at P.O. Box 241, Atkins, IA 52206.
