Ronald G. Strohman, 83, of Sigourney, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Ronald was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Sigourney, to Harold and Leona (Peiffer) Strohman. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1952 and attended St. Ambrose University. Ron then drove a truck for Parkhill Trucking and worked at the DX station with his dad before attending electrical school in Des Moines. On Oct. 27, 1956, he married LeaAnn Mertz at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Ron was an electrician for the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo for 32 years, retiring in 1998. Following retirement, he was the maintenance worker at St. Mary Catholic Church for nine years.
Ron was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, IBEW Local 405 in Cedar Rapids and was a former member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed working on cars, watching sports, fixing anything that needed fixed and the friendship and support of Brian Murphy.
Survivors include four children, Pam (Greg) Meier of Marengo, Greg (Gloria) Strohman of Webster, Linda (Jerry) Greiner of Sigourney and Cheryl Strohman of Sigourney; eight grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Aanrud, Adam Meier, Alissa (Whit) Faas, Zachary Strohman, Chad (Bridget) Greiner, Heather (Luke) Jaeger, Caitlin Shadley-Long and friend Tim Schneider and Blane Long and friend Lily Hammes; seven great-grandchildren and three on the way; brother, Nile (Sandi) Strohman of Richmond, Va.; sister: Beverly (Jim) Sigler of Moline, Ill.; and faithful felines, Frankie and Jimmy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, LeaAnn, in 2016.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
