RONALD 'RON' W. MAYER

Ronald "Ron" W. Mayer, 64, died Feb. 9, 2021, at his home in Coralville.
A private family event will be held at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements for Ron.
Born Oct. 26, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James 'Don' and Agnes (Bridge) Mayer, Ron grew up in Central City, Iowa, and graduated from Marion High School.
He received two bachelor's degrees from
the University of Iowa in anthropology and geology.
Ron was an archaeologist with the University of Iowa
and later worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation.
He enjoyed hunting for geodes, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ron is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Weland (Travis) of North Liberty; a son, Christopher Mayer; his mother, Agnes Nath of Marion; siblings, Robert Mayer (Debbie Cummings) of Cedar Rapids, Randall Baker of Marion, Franklin 'Chuck' Mayer of Phoenix, Ariz., Sherrie Klein (Jeff) of Cedar Rapids and Angel Coffman (JW) of Harriman, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Samuel and Matthew; and nieces and nephews, Andrea, Ryan, Samantha, Micheal, Mikie, Sammy and Jessica.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Canyon Brown; and his father, James 'Don' Mayer.
