Ronald E. Rath, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at his home. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, with Pastors Paul and Gayle Wilcox officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Valley Garden of Memories Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kirkwood Foundation or Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Ronald Rath was born April 11, 1937, to H. Earl and Florence (Heironimus) Rath in Cedar Falls. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Thompson (Guttenberg) in 1963.
Ron received his education at Iowa State Teachers College (B.A.) and a master's degree from the State College of Iowa. He began his career in education by teaching at Cedar Falls High School, followed by Iowa Central Community College. In 1974, he began work as an administrator at Kirkwood Community College, retiring after 27 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay; his children, Tom (Francine) of Iowa City and John (Kathy) of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Evan, Megan, Andrew and Jennifer; two sisters, Roslyn Filer (Seattle) and Carole Olson (Cleveland); one sister-in-law, Rosalie Thompson (Hot Springs Village, Ark.) and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ron will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and his kindness and caring toward everyone he knew.
