RONALD PERIN
Parnell
Ronald "Grumpy" Dale Perin passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 81 years.
He was born March 10, 1933, in Baxter, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Grace (Rankin) Perin. Ron was united in marriage to Mary Louise Sally on Dec. 29, 1951; to this union they were blessed with two daughters, Cindi (Lucinda) and Jennifer. They later divorced. On March 17, 1979, Ron married Patricia Eckhoff. She died Nov. 2, 1996.
He lived most of his life in Coralville, where he owned and operated Ron's Service for many years. He also worked in road construction, helping build Interstate 80.
Ron moved to the Parnell area in 1997 to the acreage that he and Pat had wanted to buy before her death. Grumpy, as people called him, was known for his hog roasts, especially his famous sidepork prepared with his own "special secret seasonings" for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindi (Terry) Konicek of Newhall and Jennifer (Scott) Anderson of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Danielle (Scott) McGrath of Cedar Rapids, Courtney (Jason) Mehring of Newhall and Cameron Konicek of Cedar Rapids; a great-grandson, Jackson McGrath; brother, Ken Perin of Humboldt; and a sister, Mary Ellen Hoefing of Mason. Also surviving are his wife, Pat's family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, David and Al.
Celebration of Life memorial services will be 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
