Ronald LeRoy "Ron" Dougherty Jr., 54, passed away on February 14, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Born on June 16, 1970, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ron was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He cherished time spent with his family and found great joy in the bonds he shared with them. He especially treasured his life with his wife, Melissa Dougherty, and his son, Lance Dougherty and stepkids Mikayla Hite, Jeremiah Peal and Karrissa Peal-Klitzka and his mom, Angelene Smith.
Ron had a deep appreciation for movies and enjoyed watching films that brought laughter and excitement into his life. Whether revisiting a classic favorite or discovering something new, he found joy in the art of storytelling through cinema. Ron also loved music and played guitar whenever he got the chance or a song popped into his head.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa; his son, Lance; Stepkids, Mikayla Hite, Jeremiah Peal, and Karrissa Peal-Klitzka; his mother, Angelene Smith; his brothers, Floyd (Joelle) Smith and Lloyd (Gloria) Smith; and his sisters, Sherry Wilson and Shanan Smith. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Dougherty Sr.; his sister, Kelly Dougherty Marshall; and his cousin, Shane Smith.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
