Ronald Joseph Ballinger, 87, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, following a short illness. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Murphy. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Ronald is survived by his son, Stuart (Peggy) Ballinger of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Banowetz of Marion; four grandchildren, Matt, Sarah and Dan Banowetz and Ally Ballinger; seven great-grandchildren, Koki, Joseph, Nati, Jonathan, Abigail, Rebekah and Cadence; brother, David (Corky) Ballinger of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Kathleen (Dave) Stackhouse of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kristine Hickman of Tampa, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lucretia; and his parents.
Ronald was born on April 29, 1934 ,in Des Moines, the son of LeMar and Josephine Clark Ballinger. He attended Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On June 1, 1958, Ronald married Lucretia Hancock in Columbus, Ohio. He worked with computers for Fiserv for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
Ronald was a true outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved family times and will be missed by all who knew him.
