Ronald E. Hansen, 85, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Dec. 14, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa, with services to follow. Burial will follow the funeral at Massillon Cemetery in Massillon, Iowa.
Ron was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Oxford Junction, the son of August and Wilma (Waite) Hansen. On Oct. 9, 1955, he married Marlene J. Bright of Wheatland, Iowa.
He is survived by his sister, Dee Wollenzien of Thief River Falls, Minn.; three children, Dianne Hansen of St. Paul, Minn., Pam Hill of Monroe, Iowa, and Dennis Hansen of Middlesboro, Ky.; two sons-in-law, Brad Hill and Michael Smith; and two grandsons, Wade and Ryan Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marlene; his sisters, Virginia Steffens and Joyce Buresh; and his brother, Gary Hansen.
Ron graduated from Oxford Junction High School and farmed near Oxford Junction until his retirement.
In recent years, he was a resident of Pennington Square Assisted Living in Monticello and Clarence Senior Living in Clarence. Sincere thanks are extended to the nurses, aides and staff for their loving care, with special thanks to Callie Sternhagen.
Ron was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post 473 and Zealous Masonic Lodge 435. He served on the Oxford Junction school board, the board of the Jones County Cattlemen's Association and the Jones County Soil and Water Conservation Commission.
