Ronald Raymond Deutchman, 72, of Marion, formerly of Elk River, Minn., passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Bill Randles. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
Ronald was born Aug. 16, 1945, in Minneapolis, one of seven children to Christian and Helen (Orloske) Deutchman. He graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1963, and later obtained a bachelor's degree in computer science. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1963 to 1966.
Ronald was united in marriage to Kathryn "Kathy" Kamb on Oct. 18, 1969, in Minneapolis. He was employed as a computer software engineer until retiring. Ronald was a member of Believers In Grace Fellowship Church in Cedar Rapids, Bible Study Fellowship in the Cedar Rapids area, and the Marion Senior Center Wednesday 500 Card Club, that met weekly at Lowe Park. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and loved spending time with his four grandsons. After Kathy passed, Ronald learned to cook and took pride in becoming a budding chef. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Jon) Houtman of Iowa City and Stephanie (Kenneth) Highley of St. Paul, Minn.; and four grandsons, Joshua Highley of Minneapolis, Jacob Highley of Eagan, Minn., Connor Houtman and Owen Houtman, both of Iowa City.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy, in 2015; a twin brother in infancy, Donald; and five adult siblings, Harold, Ludwig, Eugene and Irving Deutchman and Mary Nikoloff.
