Ronald Dean Elder, 86, of Chelsea, IA passed away March 12, 2025 at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton, IA.
Ronald was born February 18, 1939 and raised in Lucas County, IA. He joined the Navy at 17 and worked his way up the ladder to become an Electronics Technician, Nuclear Technician. After his retirement from the Armed Forces, Ronald worked a wide range of careers, from construction-related employment to owning a shop in Cedar Rapids that was well known for their quality rebuilds on motors.
Ronald was a very knowledgeable man in a broad array of subjects. He was an extremely determined individual and didn't allow anything to stand in his way in life. Edith was his soul mate and she knew exactly how to smooth out Ron's rough edges. She complemented his rough nature with soothing understanding.
They resided all over the country, but settled in Cedar Rapids until he retired completely. They bought an acreage outside of Chelsea, IA. Where they built their last home at 72; this was no small task. Ron was a textbook example of his era. Hard working and determined until his dying day. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.
He was preceded in death by wife, Edith May Elder; son, Steve Church and brother, Harold Elder.
