Ronald 'Fuzzy' D. Hazen, 72, of Fairfax, Iowa, formerly of Kalona, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the VFW in Riverside, Iowa, on April 2, 2022.
Ron was born on Oct. 20, 1949, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Robert Duane and Dolly Louise (Meridith) Hazen. He grew up in Ainsworth, Iowa, and graduated from Highland High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August of 1969 where he went on to fight in Vietnam. After returning he joined the National Guard Medical Unit and completed a tour in Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Ron was employed at RR Donnelley (formerly Moore Business Forms) in Iowa City, Iowa, for 32 years.
Ron lived in Kalona, Iowa, for many years with special companion, Marcia (Herschberger) Watkins. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes football fan, enjoyed playing horseshoes, going to car shows with his brother, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Ron will be lovingly remembered for his kind heart.
Survivors include his children, Allison (John) Barnes of Fairfax, Iowa, Rob (Jill) Hazen of Walford, Iowa; five grandchildren; sibling, Ken (Maria) Hazen of Marshalltown, Iowa; two nephews, Bart Hazen and Ben Hazen; a great-nephew and two great-nieces; and special companion's children, Jeremy Wiles, Katie Watkins and Tina Turner.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dolly Hazen; sibling, Gary D. Hazen; grandparents, Nettie and Louren Hazen and Etta and Arlie Meridith; and special companion, Marcia (Herschberger) Watkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to AmVets in Richmond, Iowa, VFW in Riverside, Iowa, or American Legion in Fairfax, Iowa.
The family extends a sincere thank-you to the VA Hospital, CarePro Health Services, Hospice House of Mercy and Belle Plaine Specialty Care for all their compassion and great care for Ron.
