Ronald C. Johnson, 67, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications associated with cancer treatment. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Ron was born Nov. 18, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Manfred and Charlotte (Helm) Johnson. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Iowa with a B.S. in civil engineering. Later in life he went back to pursue his B.A. in business finance at Mount Mercy while achieving Summa cum laude and "Outstanding Economic Student of the Year." Ron married Nancy Koffron on May 17, 1980, in Cedar Rapids. He started his career in business management with Fisher Controls in Marshalltown and spent several years with Norand (aka Intermec) and Alliant Energy before retiring in 2016. In his retirement, Ron enjoyed driving a school van for the Cedar Rapids School District. He loved buying and selling antique radios and parts on eBay as well as doing restoration and repair. Ron always enjoyed his time with the guys at Karma Coffee Café in Hiawatha.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Johnson of Cedar Rapids; son, Brian Andrew (Jessica) Johnson of Marion; granddaughter, Belle Stiers; grandson, Wyatt Johnson; sister, Linda (John) Hecklsmiller of Cedar Rapids; as well as his best kitty, Charlie, and beloved dog, Toby.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke's Hospital.
